A Greeting from Mrs. Mary Ida Vandross
Hello DIVAbetics,
I'm thankful and honored that DIVABETIC asked me to address so many of you who have expressed interest in making a commitment to yourself and your health. I have found it is a blessing to give a blessing, and I'm glad I have this chance to say a few things that I truly feel will help.
You all know, I believe, one of the greatest joys of my life -- being a wife and mother of four, has also unfortunately been one of my greatest sorrows as diabetes has claimed the lives of my husband, both sons, a daughter, and a grandson. Truly, this 'silent killer' has taken it's toll on my heart over the course of my life, regrettably, most recently I've witnessed diabetes silence the voice of my youngest child, Luther Vandross.
They say 'living with diabetes' is difficult because of the constant maintenance and management necessary to keep the disease in check. But I'm here to tell you that as overwhelming as these health care tasks may seem they could never compare to the loss of a loved one, your eyesight or even a limb.
But my message isn't about loss, it’s about hope. I want to welcome our growing community of newly anointed 'DIVAbetics’ and remind each of you that DIVABETIC is committed to nurturing your spirits, motivating your mind, and helping you find a way to take care of your body so you can continue to avoid the serious consequences of the disease. I hope you take this opportunity to meet new people, share your story, attend a 'Bee A D.I.V.A.' coaching class and/or volunteer at one of our upcoming events as you browse our site or contribute to our fundraising efforts by shopping for merchandise.
As many of you know, Luther, loved 'divas' like Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Patti LaBelle and Diana Ross from a very early age. Their commitment to excellence in performance after performance inspired my son to become the entertainer that he was. I want you too, to find the inspiration you need and take charge of your life, further your dreams and be the best!
Simple things like sharing a family meal are reward enough for taking good care of yourself. Please believe me when I say every night your family gathers around the table to bless their meal is one more precious reason to protect what you have before it's gone. Don’t let diabetes control you, seek out proper care now before fear or the loss of a loved one motivates you to change. The more you 'GLAM MORE, FEAR LESS’ the more "standing ovations" deservedly will come your way!
Thank you for letting DIVABETIC share in your care as you continue bettering yourself and controlling your diabetes!
God Bless,

Evangelist Mary Ida Vandross
