11.13.2010 Our entertaining approach to diabetes educational outreach, intended for faith-based communities, familiarizes women affected by diabetes with diabetes education, prevention and empowerment. Traditional diabetes education messages (food, fitness, daily self-care) are mixed with the glamour and style of church hats to make learning an upbeat experience. The goal of this program is to raise awareness of diabetes, encourage prevention and early action and address the specific issues of women affected by diabetes. This program provides solutions in the form of expert advice, encouragement and helpful local resources. Participants are encouraged to express their opinions, ask questions and provide their ‘real life’ experiences living with diabetes to empower others throughout the program. We present Divabetic in faith-based communities for women at risk, affected by and living with diabetes and their loved ones.
