She's SWEET ENUFF: Amy's Story
SWEET ENUFF Youth Diabetes Foundation's founder and executive director Amy Jordan was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of four. The negligent care of her disease created devastating ramifications. At the age of 21, after accepting a dance scholarship that took her to Los Angeles, Amy began experiencing severe complications related to her ignored symptoms. Shortly thereafter she underwent 37 surgical procedures on her eyes with little effect. She was diagnosed legally blind by the age of 22. Forced to give up her lifelong dream of a professional dance career, Amy switched gears and channeled her energy into advocacy for youth with diabetes. She decided to use her life altering experience as a catalyst for positive change in the diabetes community. The SWEET ENUFF Youth Diabetes Movement is building a creative, innovative support and education network for youth living with and affected by diabetes. Amy created SWEET ENUFF Youth Diabetes Foundation in 1997 in response to the strong need for a youth themed support and educational system. SWEET ENUFF wants youth to associate maintaining diabetes with fun! With cause and effect method towards diabetes management, creative programs are shaped with the goal of supporting youth to maintain good health. SWEET ENUFF programs are driven by youth having active participation in creating and implementing all SWEET ENUFF goals. For more information e-mail: comments@divabetic.org
